John H. Lynch, MD, FACS

AUA President

Dr. John H. Lynch is a former Director of the Prostate Cancer Center within the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. He serves as Director of the Robotic Program within the hospital. He is a Past-President of the Medical Staff.  He served for 10 years as co-chair of the Committee on Medical Education and was a member of the Committee on Students for the past seven years. He received the Kaiser-Permanente Teaching Award and the Founders Medal from the School of Medicine and is a member of the Magis Society of Masters Teachers of the School of Medicine. He is an expert on prostate cancer surgery, PSA screening tests, and cancer survivorship. His special interests are in urologic oncology, especially nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy, cystectomy as well as the treatment of benign prostatic enlargement. He has well over 100 publications, 140 national and international presentations and a similar number of abstracts.

Dr. Lynch has been active both regionally and nationally. He is a past-President of the Washington Urologic Society. He has been Program Chairman and Local Arrangement Chairman for several Mid-Atlantic Section meetings.  He served on the Board of Directors for the Mid-Atlantic Section, and is a Past President of the Section. He served a term on the Executive Committee of the Society of Urology Chairs and Program Directors. He is a former Mid-Atlantic Section Representative on the AUA Board of Directors and during that term served on the Finance Committee and as Chair of the Compensation Committee. He was awarded an Honorary Membership in the AUA in 2016.

Dr. John D. Denstedt is a Professor of Urology, in the Department of Surgery at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry in London, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from medical school in 1982 at The University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. He completed his residency in Urology at Western between 1983 and 1987 followed by a fellowship in Endourology at Washington University in St. Louis. He returned to London and joined the Division of Urology in the Department of Surgery at Western in 1990.

In July 2002 he assumed the role of City-Wide Chair and Chief of the Department of Surgery at Western University and served in this role for 14 years. In May 2013, Dr. Denstedt joined the Board of Directors of the AUA as Northeastern Section Representative (2013-2017), becoming the 3rd Canadian in the organization's history to serve on the AUA Board. Dr. Denstedt is a Past Chair of the Canadian Association of Surgical Chairs.

While maintaining an active clinical practice, Dr. Denstedt is an internationally renowned scholar in urology with career accomplishments encompassing over 250 published papers and book chapters; more than 200 guest professorships in countries throughout the world; and numerous honors and awards including being the first Canadian to have won the Gold Cystoscope Award from the AUA in 1998. Dr. Denstedt has served on the editorial boards of eight urologic journals, including as Executive Editor of the Journal of Endourology and was the Treasurer of the Endourological Society for 10 years. He has been a member of the AUA since 1991.

AUA Education Chair

Victor W. Nitti, MD, is Professor of Urology and Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology at New York University Langone Medical Center. He is also the head of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and is the fellowship director for that ACGME accredited program. He is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and did his urology residency at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY. He then completed a fellowship in female urology, neurourology and reconstructive urology at UCLA.Dr. Nitti served on the faculty at SUNY Brooklyn before joining the faculty of NYU in 1995. He is an authority in urodynamic techniques, medical and surgical therapies for urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, female pelvic reconstructive surgery and voiding dysfunction. He has authored over 130 peer-reviewed articles as well and over 60 book chapters on these subjects. He is the editor of two text books: Practical Urodynamics, published by W. B. Saunders and Vaginal Surgery for the Urologist published by Elsevier. He has presented his research at national and international meetings and has been invited as a visiting professor and participated in postgraduate courses throughout the world.

Dr. Nitti is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Board of Urology (ABU) and a member of the American Urological Association (AUA), the Society for Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU), The American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS), the International Continence Society (ICS) and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th International Consultation on Incontinence (ICI). He currently holds the position of Chair, American Urological Association Office of Education. He served as President of SUFU from 2010-2012. He currently serves on the FPMRS Division of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and on the Board of Directors for the New York Section of the AUA. Dr. Nitti is on the editorial boards of Neurourology and Urodynamics, the Journal of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, and the International Urogynecology Journal.
